I make educational outdoor exploration videos in Oregon. Adventures, geology, hiking, history, wildlife, gold mines, camping, photography, backpacking, snow shoeing, snowboarding, mountain climbing, and anything else that is interesting in our natural world.
Fender’s Blue Butterfly: From Extinction to Inspiration
This video follows Fenders Blue Butterfly which is a threatened species in the Willamette Valley. I visited Basket Slough Wildlife Refuge where they are known to be. Kinkaid's Lupine is the plant to look for as the butterfly will be near it at all times.

TV Butte in Oakridge is being fought over. Old Hazeldell LLC (same owner as King Estate Winery) is trying to build a quarry there. The butte is right on the edge of town and the residents are trying their best to stop it. #saveTVButte Website for Save TV Butte: www.oakridgestrong.org/ Gofundme to help Save TV Butte: www.gofundme.com/f/4d5u7-save-tv-butte Instagram: MattCookOregon ...

Crack in the Ground and the Four Craters Lava Field
Переглядів 8 тис.11 місяців тому
This video explores Crack in the Ground. I noticed most Crack in the Ground videos only go to the crack and nothing else. So this one I decided to include Green Mountain and the Four Craters which are of interest and related to the crack. Lots of volcanic history and fun things to look at in this area. Crack in the Ground is a volcanic fissure, created by shifting ground underneath. It is a ver...

The Right Way to Visit Natural Bridges

Natural Bridges is a popular viewpoint on the Oregon Coast. It is part of the Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor. The bridges are products of coastal erosion and make for great photography. Big Hole: Oregon Volcano Hidden in Plain Sight
Переглядів 8 тис.Рік тому
This video is all about Big Hole in Oregon. It is a volcanic formation near Fort Rock and Hole in the Ground. It can be hard to see up close so it is not nearly as popular as nearby volcanoes. I think its worth visiting for both the geologic history and relaxing remote nature. Instagram: MattCookOregon Facebook: MattCookOregon Business email: oregonsbigfoot@gmail.com ...

A Winter Visit to Steelhead Falls, Oregon
Beautiful video. We'll be travelling through Oregon soon and I'm dreaming up some ideas for places to go. So many possibilities!
Another great installment, Matt! Your narration is simply outstanding and your drone footage is spectacular! Wow, that logjam down below is something else, can’t say I’ve seen one like that outside Spirit Lake!
Awesome video and great shots!
Thank you very much Cameron. You gonna make one here?
@@MattCookOregon yeah I plan to! Looks like there’s so many good shots to grab!
I was there a couple of times back in the early '90s. Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks for this comment. I was just looking at old videos and wondering why this and a few others stopped getting views. I think the fire got this area recently so it looks way different too.
Curious, what time of year was this at roughly?
July
I thought I saw a small frog in the lower left hand corner of a frame in the above video. I am interested in native toads. Did you happen to see any toads or toad tadpoles? I am so pleased that this land has been set aside for our native wildlife and plants so they have a place to live in peace. Your 4K looked great on my 2023 top of the line LG 4K OLED TV! I need to buy a 4K digital camera! I shoot almost exclusively motion picture film - Some Super8 but, mostly 16mm and little bit of 35 mm in an old 1935 35mm camera that can only hold 100 ft of 35 mm film.
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed on the big screen! There was a frog hiding in the shot! I noticed them and tried for a few minutes to get one close up but they were very good at running/hiding. I already had the difficult butterfly to capture so didn't want to take on another sneaky wildlife.
Awesome video!
Thanks!
What a wonderful video!!! The butterfly 🦋 and flowers are beautiful!! Nicely done Matt keep them coming.
Thank you! This was a fun and difficult wildlife quest. Hopefully I can think of some more interesting ones.
Wonderful video! You are right - the surrounding area is also interesting and beautiful. My very favorite spot is out and across the graben/sink to the east of the crack: you can see how the whole area collapsed into a slight “bowl”… Thanks for posting this peaceful depiction of my backyard!
Thank you. I keep meaning to do some video on the dunes out there. Would be much more interesting with an ATV so waiting on that.
Yeah, between filling your shoes with sand and duking it, get an ATV. Super fun💪
A stunning video. One of your best. Thank you.
Thanks Rob! For some reason I was extra careful with the script. More of that to come.
Born and raised in the PacNW - THANK YOU for the text card at the beginning. We desperately need people to show more respect to the vegetation, animals, and culture in general.
Right on. I try to share some good values like that. I think its most effective to subtly sprinkle it in rather than lecture people.
Beautiful and inspirational. I love your documentary. 👍🏻❤️
Thanks Arielle.
Wooohoo thank you!
Great video!
Thank you!
Supa cool
Thank you Torrin.
Matt you were the perfect man for the job, it could not have been done better. Even the BBC cannot do filming or narration better than that, Thank you so much for bringing this to us all. ♏💪💯🙏
Thanks Mike. I did put some above normal work into the script. I have found that is the most important part lately.
@@MattCookOregon SO COMMENDABLE MATT.
Amazing. Thank you
Thank you! Tell your friends!
Yes yes so good! gonna leave a sub!
Woohoo. Hope you enjoy. I cover random things in the outdoors.
@@MattCookOregon Sounds good my friend!
Wow, those are stunning!
Agreed!
@@MattCookOregon I planted a few lupine in my garden this year, maybe I will attract a few of these. :).
Thank you so much 😮😅🎉🎉
Thank you!
This report has already become an important record of a species that populated a certain region of the planet. When Your Little Butterflies Count More Than A Decade, In addition to the Tiny Blue Butterfly, Other Species Certainly Have Perished. Terrible Human Nature Has Miserably Failed ! We Are Past the Point of No Return A Long Time Ago.
I hope you are wrong on that, but fear you are likely correct,
Butterfly lives matter!
Well put. We are past point of no return on many things. But many things can still be saved so some of us try out best.
as always dude... awesome video!!
Thank you! The sony strikes again.
Which Easter egg at @1:36 should get a video?
Excellent documentary.The wee ones are adorable.Thanks Matt✨
Thanks Brooke. I kept diving deeper into butterfly info and had to just stop so I could put this out.
What a wonderful video thank you for sharing
I appreciate the home depot endorsement!
LOL
Nicely done Matt!
Thanks Lowellian.
Nice video, thanks for sharing! 😸
Thank you very much!
I wonder if Fender's Blues will interbreed with other small blue butterflies like the Silvery Blue.If they do that could be a reason they are so rare.
That is a very good thought. I hadn't found anything about the two cross breeding so assumed it wasn't happening.
The butterflies and your daughters are beautiful! Thanks for sharing. 😊❤
Thank you very much. I didn't give them much screen time cause they always steal the show!
Yes, inspirational! Thank you!
Thank you. That was not the theme of the video when I started but it turned out that way.
Beautiful footage. Well done!
Thank you. It was a fun one to do.
Yes! my favorites..........fender's blue and lupine.........first signs of summer! Thanks, Matt. I love this so much. Your daughters are precious.
Thanks so much! I had a good feeling about this one.
Thank you for taking me to the top. I grew up in Medford. Never got the chance to do this, but always wanted to. Too bad for the smoke. But you have to take the day as it comes. I really enjoyed this video.
Thank you very much. I think there is a lot of things to do videos on near Medford. Any recommendations?
Are you still hosting tours?
I haven't ever hosted tours myself. The lodge does some horseback stuff I think? Cornucopia has seemed a little mismanaged over the years in my opinion.
God bless Mustangs farms ranches food ❤
Can't live without them!
